Balupu Review :: This Balupu is feeble not fabulous

Suresh Krishna has totally misled a generation of young directors. By directing Basha with a flash back episode, Suresh Krishna has impressed so much so that, almost all directors got influenced by this flash back episode technique and are unable to come out of that trap. According to Basha format, hero will appear in two different roles. In the present episode he appears like a good guy doing some regular job. Suddenly his past gets revealed and he appears as a big shot. Balupu also comes with the same Basha format. Though format is a known one, let’s find out if the makers have done anything new to suit Raviteja’s image and body language. What new entertainment does Balupu offer to viewers?

Ravi (Raviteja) appears as a recovery officer. He is well trained in recollecting bad debts from defaulters. His father Prakash Raj is after him bringing matches for his marriage. Ravi rejects all those matches. On the other side, Shruthi (Shruthi Hasan) along with her Crazy uncle (Brahmanandam) plays with boys in the name of love. She first acts like loving them and fools them. Satyam Rajesh, who is Ravi’s friend, also gets fooled by Shruthi. To teach Shruthi a lesson Ravi plays reverse drama with Shruthi and tortures her. But the twist in the story is Shruthi’s marriage is already fixed. Shruthi’s marriage is fixed with Adavi Shesh. Adavi Shesh had once been beaten black and blue by Ravi. Slowly Shruthi starts to like Raviteja and falls in his love. Even Shruthi’s parents approve of marrying Raviteja by cancelling the previous engagement. Unable to digest this, Adavi Shesh brings Vizag Purna. By seeing Ravi, Vizag Purna gets shocked. He reveals that Raviteja is not Ravi and he is Shankar, who is a dreaded rowdy in Vizag. Why Shankar who is feared by all in Vizag has to become Ravi and come to Bangalore to lead a normal life, has to be watched in second half.
Balupu runs with Basha format story. As Raviteja is there, comedy has been given important place. Whole first half runs on Raviiteja, Shruthi Hasan and Brahmi’s comedy. Raviteja’s plans on Brahmi, Brahmi’s retorts to Ravi and how Raviteja finally outsmarts Brahmi..the story runs in this sequence. Kona Venkat’s punch dialogues at appropriate intervals add the required comedy push for the story. Even Raviteja has used Gabbar Singh dialogues and Pawan mania and impressed audience. Pawan fans will be happy with these episodes. Pawan’s GabbarSingh scene is shown in one scene. As audience start feeling about the shallowness in story interval bang comes with villain capturing Shruthi. After interval, second half starts with flash back episode. How two individuals Shankar and Nanaji transform themselves to keep the word given to a girl is shown in flash back episode. Flashback episode is passable without any sparks. With comedy in between and Thaman beats at regular intervals, second half ends.
‘Our directors don’t care much for stories’. We hear this statement often. Balupu is a perfect example for that. Heroism does not get elevated with rhyming dialogues like “mokkanu penchuko needanisthundhi..kukkanu penchuko vishwasanga vuntundhi”. There are many dialogues like this. Raviteja hasn’t changed even one percent. We will see same old Raviteja. Shruthi appeared glamorously on posters but not in the movie. In the name of comedy Brahmanandam has been exploited. It’s a routine character for Brahmi. There is nothing special about Prakash Raj’s character.
Movie ends immediately after flash back episode. But director has dragged for another half an hour by including aathma episode. The movie ends as routinely as it takes off. Though comedy is there it’s not hilarious. Though sentiment is there, there isn’t feel in it. Thaman songs are more noise than music. One melody is nice.
Balupu is very pleasing taking wise. It’s picturised richly making it a visual feast. But what’s the use? Director can copy old stories. But instead of copying Raviteja’s past flop movies, Gopichand Malineni should have at least copied from his hit movies.Balupu Review, Balupu Rating, Balupu Movie Review, Balupu Telugu Movie Review, Ravi Teja Balupu Review, Balupu Story, Balupu Live Updates, Balupu Tweet Review, Balupu Comedy, Hero, Heroine, Cast and crew, Live Review, Tweet Review
